Millard Fuller, the founder of Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 at Koinonia Farm in Americus, Georgia, the US, by Millard and Linda Fuller with a belief that a good home is the foundation of a good family and a good community.
Millard Fuller cooperated with Clarence Jordan, the founder of Koinonia Farm, a small, interracial, Christian farming community, to develop the concept of 'Partnership Housing' that centred around those in need of adequate shelter working side by side with volunteers to build simple, decent houses.
Habitat for Humanity's phenomenal and global growth came in 1984 as former US President Jimmy Carter shared the Habitat Values and joined in the Habitat movement.
Habitat for Humanity Korea
-
The sound of hope rang from Korea
After years of preparation in the early 1990s, Habitat Korea began in 1994 with 3 houses built in Yangju. The Jimmy Carter Work Project in 2001 took place in Korea, and it allowed Habitat Korea to become what it is today.
Slow economic development and high unemployment rate caused by the global economic slowdown has led Korean families to be separated and isolated. In light of this, Habitat Korea has sought to provide an adequate home and community through the cooperation and the donation culture.
Globally, Habitat Korea donated its first overseas home in 2008, and the 2,000th home was donated only three years later.

Working in Partnership
All participants, individuals and organisations alike, who share Habitat values and work with us are partners.
Habitat has three main partners: Homeowners, who, after offering to work with Habitat to build his/her own home, gain the ground on which they can achieve self-reliance; Donors, both individuals and organisations, who support Habitat mission through the financial and material means; and lastly, volunteers who work side-by-side with Habitat to build homes.
Homeowners not only participate in the construction process as a part of ‘Sweat equity’, but also refund the set amount of fund, or ‘Revolving fund’ that can be used to build homes for others in need of a decent place to live..Through the organic interaction and cooperation, people share their love and interest and build community that will change their lives.
